E-Scooter Thefts Surge in Viersen: Police Investigate, Offer Security Tips

The theft of electric micro-vehicles, particularly E-Scooters, is on the rise in the Viersen district. In 2023, 34 cases were reported, with 82 incidents already occurring in 2024. Recently, a Ninebot E2 D II electric scooter was stolen in Breyell, prompting local police to issue security advice.

The electric scooter, secured with a numerical lock, was taken between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM on Tuesday from Von-Waldois-Straße. Police are investigating a 47-year-old male suspect in connection with the increasing thefts and have him in custody. They urge residents to note down the frame number and take photos of their electric scooters to aid investigations. The Criminal Investigation Department 2 in Dülken is handling the case and can be reached at 02162/377-0 for tips.

To prevent thefts, police advise using robust folding locks and securing the vehicle to a fixed object.
