Dortmund & Lünen Crack Down on E-scooter Chaos: 130 Fined in One Day

Authorities in Dortmund and Lünen have launched a crackdown on unregulated e-scooter use following a rise in accidents. The operation, scheduled for October 7, 2025, aims to tackle the increasing number of incidents involving injured e-scooter users.

From January to August, e-scooter accidents rose by 11.9%, from 101 to 113. In Lünen, accidents increased significantly by 88.9%, jumping from 9 to 17. Dortmund also saw a rise, with accidents up by 4.3% from 92 to 96. In response, the police have been conducting preventive measures, including setting up an information booth to educate users on traffic safety.

During the operation, moving e-scooters were not just stopped at checkpoints but throughout the city. This resulted in 130 fines being issued, 14 criminal charges filed for offenses such as misuse of license plates or theft, and 7 administrative offenses recorded. Additionally, 5 blood samples were taken due to suspicions of drug-influenced driving.

The police operation highlights the growing concern over e-scooter safety in Dortmund and Lünen. Authorities hope that stricter enforcement and public awareness campaigns will help reduce accidents and ensure safer streets for all users.
