Diwali 2025 Booms with International Travel, India Searches Surge 24%
Diwali 2025 is set to attract a significant number of international visitors to India, with searches for travel surging. Expedia, a leading travel booking platform, has revealed a 24% increase in searches for India as a destination during the upcoming festival week.
The United Arab Emirates and the United States are among the top markets showing high interest, with searches increasing by 87% and 28% respectively. South Korea has also shown remarkable interest, with a 45x increase in searches. Additionally, Thailand and Malaysia have displayed strong travel interest, with searches growing nearly twofold and 25% respectively.
Domestic travel within India is also expected to boom, with searches increasing by 18%. Among the most popular destinations for Diwali are Goa, Udaipur, and Jaipur, with searches rising by 49%, 46%, and 46% respectively. New Delhi and Mumbai, the capital and financial hub of India, have also seen increased searches, doubling and rising by 18% respectively.
Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Expedia, commented on the growing international interest in India's cultural festivals. He noted that the increase in searches reflects the global appeal of Diwali and the desire to experience India's rich culture and traditions. With international travel searches to India growing by 67% year-on-year during Diwali, it is clear that the festival is a significant driver of tourism in the country.
