Diver's Unique Encounter: Devil Rays' Courtship Ballet Captured

A unique encounter between a diver and a devil ray has captured the attention of marine enthusiasts. Duncan, an avid underwater photographer, found himself in the midst of an extraordinary display of courtship behavior by several devil rays in Honda Bay, Palawan, Philippines.

The encounter began when one mature male devil ray approached Duncan, brushing against his body. The camera, a Canon EOS 6D with a Canon 15mm F2.8 fisheye lens in an Inon X2 housing, captured the moment with settings at F7.1, 1/200 sec, and ISO 500. The photographer's identity remains unknown.

Duncan witnessed an unusual sight: several male devil rays pursuing a single female, a behavior he described as a 'ballet'. This courtship ritual is not commonly observed, making Duncan's photographs all the more remarkable.

Duncan's extraordinary encounter with the devil rays in Honda Bay has earned him a well-deserved prize. He has won a liveaboard cruise on the M.Y. Oceanic to Indonesia's southern islands, with 50% off for his companion. His photographs serve as a testament to the beauty and intrigue of the underwater world.
