Discoveries about Zapolyare and Ecuador at the "56th Parallel Festival"

Festival Time! Head to Tomsk's 56th Parallel Travel Showdown

Get ready, travel enthusiasts! The 56th Parallel Festival is coming to the International Cultural Center of Tomsk Polytechnic University (MKSC TPU) on April 19-20. This event is a fantastic opportunity to connect with renowned Russian explorers, gaze at breathtaking photos and films from various global locations, and maybe even get a sneak peek into some uncharted territories, as informed by the festival's organizing committee member, Vyacheslav Balashov.

It's worth noting that this festival has been a Tomsk tradition since 1999. It's like an adventure exchange program where travelers meet and share their experiences. Last year, attendees were treated to films showcasing journeys across Sakhalin, a car trek through the Gobi Desert, and even an Antarctic expedition, all captured on board a sailing vessel.

Balashov shared that the festival will take place from 11 AM to 7 PM on April 19 and 10 AM to 4 PM on April 20 at MKSC TPU on Usova, 13. The event will cater to viewers of all ages, with films for kids, teens, and the young at heart.

"The festival will feature film screenings and a photography exhibit, a literary session, and a travel buff's delight - a meet-and-greet with explorers who will answer your questions and share their material," Balashov explained.

Expect Eugeniya Kovalevskaya to discuss Tomsk's circumnavigation expedition "Russian circumnavigators," Tatiana Gontcharova and Dmitriy Bolkisev to share their experiences from their expedition in Ecuador, and Alexei Gaponov to regale us with tales from the first Russian Arctic city of Mangazeya.

"Last year, we had a scaled-down version of the event due to COVID (it took place in the library 'Academic'). This year, we're back on a bigger stage and can accommodate all interested participants. We'll have ample space for photo exhibits and a dedicated room for workshops with speakers," Balashov added.

Guests from Altai Krai, Yekaterinburg, Biisk, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Gorno-Altaysk, Kemerovo, Omsk, Prokopyevsk, and Moscow are expected to join. Admission is free for all.

A detailed schedule and program will be released five days before the festival. You can stay updated through the festival's official Telegram channel.
