Digital Techniques for Bringing the Hallertau to Life Through Virtual Tours

The Hallertau region, renowned for its hop cultivation and brewing culture, is set to offer a unique and immersive way for visitors to explore its rich history and cultural peculiarities. The Digital Hallertau Experience is a new project spearheaded by Hopfenland Hallertau Tourism e.V., aiming to make the region's culture, history, and hop expertise accessible in a modern manner through digital audio tours.

Led by project leader Carolin Meinhold, the Digital Hallertau Experience is a testament to inter-municipal cooperation, with partners hailing from the four participating districts of Pfaffenhofen, Freising, Kelheim, and Landshut. The project was officially launched at the German Hops Museum in Wolnzach, a cultural institution that has been operating for 20 years.

Four audio tours are planned for the project, including two city tours in Wolnzach and Mainburg, and two cycling tours through several municipalities in the region. These tours will allow users to hear stories about the region while walking or cycling, learning about local personalities, cultural peculiarities, and the intricacies of hop cultivation and brewing.

The Digital Hallertau Experience is supported by the European Leader funding program and contributions from the participating municipalities. The first results of the project are planned for summer 2026.

As the project's content is developed in the coming months, more details about the specifics of the audio tours and the mechanisms of inter-municipal cooperation will likely become available.

The Digital Hallertau Experience, covering various aspects of the region's lifestyle including home-and-garden and travel, will utilize modern technology to immerse visitors in the region's rich history and cultural peculiarities, as outlined in the project's city and cycling tours. Through these audio tours, users can learn about the region's unique local personalities and the intricate processes of hop cultivation and brewing.
