Welcome to Kingsford Smith Airport, Sydney, as we depart on our long-haul journey to Ho Chi Minh City, yours truly onboard Vietnam Airlines' VN772 Business Class. This flight promised a taste of luxury, and boy, did it deliver!
Prepare for a journey filled with sumptuous meals, exceptional service, and a cabin that feels like home. But let’s dive right into the nitty-gritty of this remarkable flight.
Our Home for the Next 8.5 Hours
Our fleet, the 6.8-year-old VN-A896 (Airbus A350-900), features the airline's long-haul Business Class configuration. The luxurious cabin boasts a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout, ensuring every traveler has direct aisle access and privacy.
Meals to Delight
This long-haul flight bore witness to two mouth-watering meal services. Allow me to take you on a culinary adventure.
Main Service:
Upon taking off, we were offered a menu from which to choose our meals. I opted for the Marinated Prawn with Salmon Tarator and Oriental Mayonnaise, a light and tantalizing seafood appetizer, followed by a delightful Steamed Ling Fillet Chinese-style dish with Fish Soy Sauce, Steamed Jasmine Rice, and Stir-fried Bok Choy. To round off the meal, a selection of fresh fruits, various cheeses, and assorted cakes with ice cream were on offer.
Refreshments Service:
Before landing, a lighter second meal was served, featuring three options: Smoked Salmon, Chicken Mushroom Pie, and a Dim Sum Trio, the latter a nod to Chinese culture.
The Dim Sum, comprising Char Siu Pork Bun, Spinach Prawn Dumpling, and Pork Siu Mai, simply beguiled my taste buds with its balance of sweet and savory flavors.
Sip and Be Entertained
Business Class passengers can enjoy a slightly larger entertainment system than Premium Economy, offering a movie experience enhanced by Korean, Western, and Vietnamese films, plus music and an inflight map. Although the system is functional, additional features, such as a HUD view or external camera, would surely elevate the experience.
Each seat boasts an IFE remote and Vietnam Airlines-branded wired headphones, slightly inferior to top-tier brands but suitable for long-haul flights.
On-Board Facilities
Business Class passengers have access to two spacious and well-stocked lavatories at the front of the cabin. The vanities, stocked with lotions, disposable cups, and razors, are a welcome addition to the flying experience.
The lavish amenity kit, provided to each passenger, contains essentials like toothbrush kits, earplugs, eyeshades, sleeping socks, Payot moisturizer and lip balm, a foldable comb, and stickers (e.g., "Do Not Disturb," "Wake Me for Meals").
Cozy Comfort
Seats are equipped with a soft pillow, thick blanket, and house slippers, with the blankets, though warm, potentially feeling a bit too thick for those prone to overheating.
Quite surprisingly, WiFi was unavailable on this long-haul flight.
The Choice is Yours
When deliberating options for the SYD - SGN route, you must consider the level of luxury and convenience you desire. Please remember that, aside from Vietnam Airlines, few carriers offer full-service Business Class products on this route. Alternatives, such as low-cost carrier VietJet, might present more affordable options but with fewer perks.
When departing from Sydney International, Business Class passengers are offered access to the SkyTeam Alliance Lounge, a tranquil space with a splendid apron view, perfect for unwinding before your journey begins.

Vietnam Airlines' exceptional hospitality was ever-present throughout this flight. The crew's warm greetings, attentive service, and thoughtful gestures truly set them apart.
A crew member frequently engaged with an infant in my row, while another offered me tea and nuts upon waking. Even the Chief Purser personally greeted passengers, making clear why Vietnam Airlines excels in service.
