Demonstrations for Maratha Reservations Transform Azad Maidan into a Muddy Mess; Protesters Opt for City Exploration at Gateway of India, Nariman Point, and Taj Hotel
In the heart of Mumbai, the financial capital of India, the Maratha reservation protest led by Manoj Jarange Patil has been making headlines. The protest, which began at Azad Maidan, has been attracting supporters from various parts of Maharashtra, including Marathwada.
Despite the inclement weather, the protest continued on Saturday, with Azad Maidan becoming muddy due to the rain. However, many protesters chose to sightsee instead of remaining at Azad Maidan, exploring the city's iconic landmarks such as the Gateway of India and Nariman Point.
At the Gateway of India, protesters were seen taking selfies, clicking pictures, and recording videos, adding a unique spectacle to the historical monument. Some protesters even broke into dance to drum beats, creating a lively atmosphere.
The Taj Hotel, a global tourist attraction, also drew protesters on Saturday, with some entering the hotel near the Gateway of India. The influx of protesters led to a significant traffic jam on the Thane Creek Bridge, Atal Setu, and the Eastern Freeway leading into Mumbai.
It's important to note that Mumbai, along with Thane and Navi Mumbai, is currently under a yellow alert until August 31, and Konkan districts are expected to face heavy rainfall until September 3. However, the weather in Mumbai on Saturday did not seem to deter the protesters from their cause or their sightseeing excursions.
The Maratha quota agitation, while a significant event in Mumbai, did not seem to be associated with any other recent news items such as 'Koi Bhi Galat Intention...', 'Param Sundari Box Office Collection Day 2', or the unbelievable CPL 2025 dismissal.
As the protest continues, the city of Mumbai and its landmarks remain a backdrop to the ongoing struggle for Maratha reservation. The resilience and spirit of the protesters, despite the challenging weather conditions, serve as a testament to their determination.
