Cultural events celebrating ethnic diversity taking place in Kolym

In the Olsky municipal district of Kolyma, an ethnic festival named "Kedrovyi Stlanik - Kychvokych Bolit" took place, marking a celebration of the region's rich indigenous heritage. Similarly, the "Breath of the Sea" festival was held in Magadan's ethnopark "Dyukcha".

These festivals serve as platforms for showcasing the traditions, arts, and heritage of indigenous peoples in the Kolyma region. They provide opportunities for traditional performances, storytelling, craft exhibitions, and communal feasts, fostering intergenerational transmission of culture and solidarity among native communities.

The "Kedrovyi Stlanik - Kychvokych Bolit" festival concluded with a concert featuring representatives of regional diasporas and amateur artists, while the "Breath of the Sea" event included national collectives and the "Northern Multibattle" and national games.

Guests at both events had the chance to participate in various workshops and immerse themselves in the national cuisine of different ethnic groups. Tasting aromatic fish soup was just one of the culinary delights on offer.

Lilya Shcherbakov, a member of the Public Council under the UMD for Magadan Oblast and the chair of the regional Association of Indigenous Small-Numbered Peoples and Ethnic Groups of the North, led the "Breath of the Sea" festival. Lilya Semenovna, another prominent figure, emphasised the importance of preserving the unique cultural heritage in Kolyma, stating that it helps residents preserve their roots and instill interest and respect for the traditions of indigenous peoples in children.

Law enforcement officers and Rosgvardiya ensured the safety of both festivals, with no public order violations reported during the celebrations. These events not only promote awareness, pride, and continuity of indigenous identities amidst historical challenges, but also help raise public recognition of indigenous rights and contributions within Russia.
