Court Rules in Favor of Animal Protection Center, Future Uncertain

A legal battle over the future of Wuppertal's animal protection center has reached a turning point. The court has ruled that the contracts, terminated by the Bergische Diakonie, are legally valid. Today, a petition with over 5,000 signatures will be handed over in a bid to save the project.

The animal protection association took legal action against the Bergische Diakonie after they terminated the contracts for the animal protection center. The court has now ruled in favor of the association, stating that the contracts are legally binding. Both parties have been ordered to reach an out-of-court settlement.

The original vision was a joint project between the animal protection association and the Diakonie, aiming to provide a safe haven for animals and patients alike. However, a change in the board of the Diakonie Aprath led to a disagreement on the scope of the cooperation, resulting in the contract termination.

Wuppertal has been without its own animal shelter for many years, making the planned animal protection center a crucial project. The center was to be built on the grounds of the Bergische Diakonie in Wülfrath. Despite the legal ruling, no information is available about a director from the Bergische Diakonie who will make a judgment in the absence of an out-of-court settlement on October 2nd.

A petition started by an engaged Wuppertaler, with over 5,000 signatures, will be handed over to the Diakonie today. The petitioners hope to persuade the Diakonie to honor the original agreement and complete the animal protection center. The future of the project remains uncertain, pending the outcome of the out-of-court settlement discussions.
