Sick of feeling like a sardine in a tin while stuck in Economy Class during long-haul flights? Well, say goodbye to cramped quarters and hello to the Skycouch! Air New Zealand's revolutionary seating scheme is here to revolutionize your flying experience, offering an unparalleled level of comfort and space. And let me tell you, I've given the Skycouch a whirl - and it never fails to impress.

Ready to know the hot tip of the century? The Skycouch is the absolute bomb, and I'd take it over Premium Economy any day. This review scores a 10/10, but stick around to find out why!

Ever wondered "How does this thing work?" Well, wonder no more! When booking your flight, simply opt for the Skycouch during the seat selection process. The setup is perfect for solo travelers, couples, or families looking for some extra space. Take a couple, for example; by booking an entire row, they'd only pay about $150 each and gain a spare seat between them. New Zealand Airways' Skycouch is hands down the best value for money in commercial aviation.

Getting into the ins and outs of the Skycouch...

Each seat boasts a footrest that can be raised to form a flat surface across the row, turning your ordinary seats into a comfy, couch-like bed (check out the video below for a demonstration). Air New Zealand also throws in seat extenders, quilts, large pillows, and blankets to make the experience even cozier.

5/5

Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from New Zealand Airways when it comes to customer service, but they truly outdid themselves. Traveling with my brood, I was relieved to see the flight attendants (especially on the Auckland to Perth leg) treating my difficult-to-handle youngster like royalty. They went above and beyond, bringing extra snacks early and even offering a sneak peek of the cockpit to keep my little one entertained. It made all the difference and showed just how much they care.

4.5/5

The food was top-notch, but I have to admit, I was a bit taken aback when I noticed the kids' meal had more food on the tray than the adult option. In recent years, portion sizes have shrunk and simplified. On a 5.5-hour overnight flight, the meal was more than enough for me, but a full-grown man might not find it as filling. The 6.5-hour flight from Auckland to Perth saw us served both a meal and a snack, which was a nice touch since the meals weren't particularly large, and the trays were on the small side!

5/5

There's no shortage of meal choices, Wi-Fi, or in-seat power backing you up. However, on the overnight flight, there was no amenity kit available, and for flights under seven hours, there were no activity packs for kids. The staff said that these amenities are only given out on long-haul flights, as the Perth-Auckland route is considered medium-haul. The crew mentioned that headphones for kids are available upon request, and I'd recommend grabbing a pair as soon as you set foot on the plane.

Air New Zealand is the only airline in the world to offer the Skycouch, making it a truly unique and game-changing travel experience. If Air New Zealand is an option for your flight route and you have the opportunity to book a Skycouch - grab it! This bad boy has the power to turn a row of economy seats into a comfortable bed, offering more space, more comfort, and ultimately, more happiness. It's the closest thing you can get to Business Class without the exorbitant price tag. Whether you're a thrifty solo traveler, a romantic duo, or a family of five looking to rest on the way to your destination, the Skycouch is the ticket to a dreamy flight experience.

It'll convert a row of economy seats into a bed-like, comfy oasis, giving you more space, more comfort, and undeniably, more joy. It's a great alternative to Business Class without the hefty bill, and it truly is amazing value.

If you're searching for the ultimate way to fly economy, look no further - the Skycouch is the answer! ✈️✌️

Editor's Note: John had the pleasure of traveling as Air New Zealand's guest while testing out the Skycouch. All other passengers shelled out their own cash to take the flight.
