City of Bremen leaves documented affirmation of its existence
Record Tourist Overnight Stays in Bremen
Bremen is poised for a record-breaking year in tourist visits, according to the Economic Development Agency Bremen. Preliminary data from the state's statistical office shows that the city accumulated 1,088,607 overnight stays in the first half of 2023, representing a 23.8% increase compared to the same period last year and a 1.4% increase compared to the previous record year of 2019.
"The 1.4% increase over the record year of 2019 indicates a strong recovery in Bremen's tourism industry, and our national advertising campaign seems to be bearing fruit," said Kristina Vogt, Senator for Economy, Ports, and Transformation. "These numbers put Bremen ahead of many other German destinations."
The majority of overnight guests, around 80%, came from within Germany. The Netherlands ranked as the top international market with 30,920 overnight stays, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom with 15,692 and 14,674 overnight stays, respectively.
Bremen currently boasts 13,094 beds in commercial accommodation providers, 750 more than in 2019. According to Oliver Rau, Managing Director of WFB Economic Development Bremen GmbH, the city's net room price of 90.25 euros is significantly lower than the national average, making it an appealing destination for both business and leisure travelers.
Due to events such as the finale of the Deutschland Tour, the music festival, the Breminale, and planned attractions like the Freimarkt, the Christmas market, the "Birthday Guests" special exhibition at the Kunsthalle, and the National Maritime Conference, Rau anticipates the tourist boom to continue throughout the year, making 2023 potentially the best tourist year on record.
Preliminary economic analysis suggests that the total tourism revenue for Bremen in 2022 was approximately 1.7 billion euros, with around 158 million euros in VAT and income tax remaining within the city. In addition, various taxes such as property tax, corporate tax, and the tourism tax are generated.
While the specific factors driving this record tourism growth are not clearly identified, broader trends such as the resurgence of the German travel market, strengthening local economy, and attractions like the Klimahaus and the German Emigration Center in Bremerhaven could contribute to the increase in tourist visits.
Tourists seeking new destinations might find Bremen's record-breaking 1,088,607 overnight stays in 2023 intriguing, especially considering the city's appealing net room price for both business and leisure travelers. The city's strong recovery and growth, coupled with upcoming events like the Breminale and the National Maritime Conference, suggest a lifestyle that embraces travel and transport, making Bremen a promising destination for the future.
