Boost in Airline Bookings for Lufthansa

Lufthansa, Germany's flag carrier airline, is seeing a significant increase in bookings for the upcoming holiday season, with a focus on popular cultural hubs, business centers, and tourist destinations.

The airline is resuming and expanding flights to various European cities from both Frankfurt and Munich. From Frankfurt, Lufthansa is now flying to almost every island in the Canaries, as well as Dublin, Gdansk, Salzburg, Turin, and Naples. From Munich, Lufthansa is now flying to Paris, Madrid, Helsinki, Athens, Rome, Oslo, Warsaw, and Lisbon.

In addition, Lufthansa is increasing its flight coverage to the Canary Islands from Frankfurt, and reintroducing "classic routes" from both cities. The airline is also adjusting its flight plans "short-term flexibly" to meet the high demand for travel during this period.

According to Lufthansa board member Harry Hohmeister, the desire to travel is strong worldwide. Up to 400 percent more people have booked destinations in overseas and southern and northern Europe compared to the previous week. Popular destinations include flight destinations in South Africa, Namibia, the Canary Islands, Madeira, and sun destinations in the Mediterranean region, as well as snow-sure areas in northern Finland.

While there is no explicit list of the most popular destinations for the holidays in the search results, the airline's seasonal schedules typically include extra flights to traditional popular holiday cities to meet high demand. The airline is also expanding its seasonal schedules with extra flights around Christmas and New Year to accommodate demand, allowing passengers to reserve through dedicated booking lines.

Lufthansa will also resume and expand flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from Munich starting late October 2025, with three weekly services on the Airbus A350-900. Riyadh is an important cultural and economic hub with major events such as the Riyadh Season festival, enhancing its attractiveness as a destination. The Middle East route expansion includes over 120 weekly Lufthansa Group flights to Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah, indicating growing demand for travel to these destinations during high seasons.

In conclusion, while Riyadh is explicitly highlighted as a revived and likely popular seasonal route, broader Lufthansa Christmas/New Year popularity will typically favor major global hubs and vacation spots supported by their additional seasonal flights. Popular reasons for these destinations being favored include seasonal festivals, tourism appeal, family visits, and returning expatriates.

  1. Passengers can expect an increase in flights to traditional holiday cities as Lufthansa adjusts its seasonal schedules to accommodate high demand, favoring popular destinations such as the Canary Islands, Madeira, and sun destinations in the Mediterranean region.
  2. With the resumption and expansion of flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Lufthansa is also capitalizing on the allure of Riyadh as a cultural and economic hub, especially with major events like the Riyadh Season festival, making it a desirable destination for travelers seeking a different lifestyle experience.
