Artist Transition: A Jewish Painter, Post-October 7, 2023
Yury Kharchenko, a renowned painter who has lived and worked in Berlin for 16 years, will be the guest of honour at an upcoming cultural event on Monday, 6th October 2025, at 19:00. The main event, which will be held both in person at Kantine and via livestream, will take place at Friedrichstr. 10969 Berlin. Doors will open at 18:30, and admission is free but requires a reservation.
Throughout his career, Kharchenko has garnered numerous exhibitions worldwide, and his works are part of collections such as the Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, Kunstmuseum Walter, Sammlung Wemhöner (Herford/Berlin), Kunsthaus NRW Aachen, NS Documentation Center Cologne, and the Felix-Nussbaum-House in Osnabrück.
During the event, Kharchenko will discuss his experiences, views of the world, and the impact of fear on his work, as well as the existence of a cancel culture against Jewish artists. One of the cycles of his oeuvre deals with his Jewish history and demonizations of the Jewish.
Jan Feddersen, the editor for special tasks and curator of the website Talks and the website lab, will moderate the event. Audience members are welcome to ask questions and provide comments during the event in the livestream and Kantine. Questions can also be submitted in advance.
From November 13 to 28, Kharchenko will curate an exhibition "Bad Good Jews" in the former Nazi bunker in Berlin (Bunker West, Hohenzollerndamm 120) together with Aljoscha Samjatin. The exhibition promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of the artist's work and the complexities of contemporary society.
Audience members can provide feedback after the conversation via email to ourwebsitetalk@ourwebsite. For those who are unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to engage with Kharchenko's insights.
The event-ticketing software is provided by pretix. Whether you're a fan of Kharchenko's work or simply interested in exploring the impact of fear and cancel culture on contemporary art, this cultural event promises to be an enlightening experience. Reserve your spot today!
