Argentina has loosened travel restrictions for Indians who hold U.S. visas.

In a significant move to attract more visitors and strengthen global partnerships, Argentina has eased its visa rules for Indian citizens who hold a valid US tourist visa. This policy change is expected to take effect immediately and could further stimulate economic growth by boosting bilateral trade and collaboration in various sectors.

Immigration officials will still check documents with relevant agencies before giving clearance at entry points. This simplification of travel procedures is seen as essential for Argentina to attract more visitors, particularly from India, a strong potential market with millions of tourists travelling to the US every year, according to Deregulation Minister Federico Sturzennegger.

The tourism sector in Argentina is an important contributor to the economy. With the growing Indian interest in tourist destinations like Patagonia, Iguazu Falls, and Buenos Aires, this policy change is expected to bring a surge of Indian tourists to Argentina. Argentina's ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, emphasized bringing more Indian tourists as a priority for the government.

Tourism Secretary Daniel Scioli welcomed the reform, noting that it will make travel easier and encourage cultural exchanges. Apart from tourism, this move could further boost annual bilateral trade between India and Argentina and open doors for collaboration in technology, agriculture, and renewable energy. The current bilateral trade between the two countries is worth around $6 billion.

This policy change aligns with President Javier Milei's deregulation agenda, aimed at reducing red tape and stimulating economic growth. The latest move is seen as Argentina's wider effort in boosting international tourism and strengthening global partnerships.

Notably, the policy change was raised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his meeting with President Milei in Buenos Aires earlier this year. The move comes after Argentina has extended similar exemptions to travelers from China and the Dominican Republic, as long as they also hold valid US visas.

In a remarkable turn of events, Rishabh Agarwal, an Indian American AI researcher, joined Meta's Superintelligence Lab in April 2025 on a million-dollar salary but resigned after five months to pursue "a different kind of risk". During his short tenure at Meta, he contributed to advancing post-training techniques for "thinking" AI models, including reinforcement learning and model distillation. His departure from Meta could signal a shift in the focus of Indian talent in the tech industry, potentially impacting future collaborations between India and Argentina.

This news of simplified visa rules for Indian tourists is likely to create a ripple effect, encouraging more cultural exchanges, economic growth, and strengthening the bond between India and Argentina.
