Algarve Region Registers Occupancy Rate of 68.8%

In April 2025, the Algarve region of Portugal saw a robust rebound in tourism, with the room occupancy rate increasing significantly compared to both 2019 and the previous year. According to the Algarve Business Association's research, the region's room occupancy rate stood at 68.8%, representing a jump of 6.8 percentage points over April 2024 and a 3.6 percentage point uptick compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

The British, German, and domestic markets demonstrated the most pronounced year-on-year growth, registering increases of 3.3, 1.5, and 1.1 percentage points, respectively. However, the Irish and Swedish markets experienced minor declines, falling by 0.9 and 0.6 percentage points, respectively.

The average length of stay in accommodation units across the Algarve was 4.1 nights in April 2025, a figure similar to that of the same month the previous year. The Norwegian, German, and Polish markets showed the longest average stays last month, with 7.7, 5.7, and 5.5 nights, respectively.

The overall hotel performance in Portugal in 2025 has revealed sustained growth, with guest numbers rising by 3% year-on-year and revenue increasing by 5.2%, signifying a maturing and resilient market environment. This trend in the Algarve reflects the broader recovery of Portugal's tourism sector, highlighting the region as a promising destination for tourists from various European markets.
