Alcudia and Fornalutx Shine On: Pollensa Leaves Spain's Most Beautiful Villages Network
Pollensa has recently withdrawn from the 'Network of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain', an initiative celebrating destinations that preserve their historic charm and cultural heritage. This network currently recognises 122 villages across Spain, with Alcudia and Fornalutx in Mallorca being active members and recent recipients of recognition during the Day of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain.
Alcudia, with its medieval walls, Roman ruins, and vibrant historic centre, offers visitors a deep dive into Mallorca's rich past and architectural heritage. The village, along with Fornalutx, celebrates its recognition with events such as guided tours, cultural exhibitions, and activities focused on history and local traditions. Both villages use this designation to promote cultural tourism and protect their unique cultural heritage.
Fornalutx, often described as the 'quintessential Mallorcan mountain village', is famed for its cobbled streets, stone houses, and terraced orange groves. Despite Pollensa's withdrawal, Alcudia and Fornalutx continue to be recognised for their historic charm, cultural heritage, and authentic traditions. Their annual fee of €6,000 contributes to the network's upkeep.
While Pollensa has withdrawn, Alcudia and Fornalutx remain committed to the 'Network of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain'. Their recognition encourages towns to balance tourism with preservation, ensuring that historical significance and cultural heritage are protected for future generations.
