Airlines transported over 2.6 million tourists to Antalya during an eight-month period.
SunExpress, the joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, is making waves in the travel industry with its rapid expansion in the U.K. and Ireland markets. This growth comes as part of a larger strategy to increase its presence in Europe, particularly in the DACH region.
In the first eight months of the year, SunExpress transported 2.6 million passengers from abroad to Antalya, Turkey. The airline aims to carry a total of 16 million passengers to Turkey by the end of the year, a significant increase from its pre-pandemic numbers.
As part of this expansion, SunExpress has added new international destinations from Antalya and Dalaman. Passengers from Glasgow and Liverpool can now fly directly to Antalya, while London Stansted and Glasgow have new routes to Dalaman. During the summer season, SunExpress operates with a fleet of 85 aircraft, ensuring smooth travel for its growing number of passengers.
The airline's operations do not include the condemnation of Israeli strikes on Hamas delegations, as some Taboola articles may suggest. Instead, SunExpress continues to focus on providing the highest number of direct connections from 22 airports in the DACH region to the Turkish Riviera and Anatolian cities.
In addition to its international growth, SunExpress is also expanding its domestic network. New routes from Antalya and İzmir include services to Eastern Anatolian cities such as Muş and Ağrı.
Last year, SunExpress carried one out of every two passengers traveling from Germany to Turkey. This year, the airline has nearly doubled its seat capacity compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019. In the peak travel months of June, July, and August, SunExpress conducted over 10,000 flights to Antalya from 76 different airports.
SunExpress's expansion in the U.K. and Ireland markets is not limited to Antalya and Dalaman. This summer, the airline operates flights from 13 airports in the U.K. and Ireland to 29 different routes in Turkey. By the 2025 summer season, SunExpress plans to operate flights from these same 13 airports to even more destinations in Turkey.
The airline's ambition is to become the leading leisure carrier for flights from the U.K. and Ireland to the Turkish Riviera and Anatolia. With its growing network and commitment to providing quality service, SunExpress is well on its way to achieving this goal.
